On August 9th–11th, @print_and_carve_dept hosted [Woodcut dispatches:New York ↔ Taipei Print Pals Patchwork Quilt Pop-Up Exhibition] in Taipei, at @welcomelimkong and @yamahut_cafe .

On the 9th, Print and Carve Dept organized a talk show and printing workshop with me (aki; @an_aki_art ) as a member from A3BC. It was my first time in Taiwan, so I was floored by the warm welcome from all of the organizers and participants, who taught me many things I didn’t know or hadn’t thought of before, including new insights into how printmaking collectives can put the DIY spirit into practice and empower everyone involved.

On the 10th, Print and Carve and @printpals.nyc , another printmaking collective from NYC, held a report and dialogue event. They shared their experiences making a tapestry from prints created at workshops where participants responded to a series of questions about their national identities, the wars within and between nations, as well as resisting the despotic dystopia overtaking the globe.

I learned how they confronted the notion of borders, and how artificial and fluid they can be, through the very practice of making collaborative art from their introspections. Listening to their dialogue, I found myself confronting my own struggles with borders, and the challenges and ignorance that come with them.

Ultimately, though, I found new hope that we have a better chance of overcoming these borders if we can continue dialogues across the sea, with the love and care that I had the fortune of receiving from the people I met in Taipei.

8月9日〜11日にかけて、印刻部が台北のWelcome LimkongとYamahut Cafeで展示イベント「木刻通訊：紐約 ↔ 台北」を開催しました。

9日には、印刻部がトークショーと版画ワークショップを企画してくれ、A3BCのメンバーとして私（アキ）も登壇させて頂きました。台湾を訪れるのは今回が初めてだったのですが、オーガナイズしてくれた方々や参加者のみなさんからの温かい歓迎に胸が熱くなりました。またみなさんから、いかにDIYを実践し、参加者全員がエンパワーできるかについてなど、私が知らなかったこと、考えたこともなかったことを勉強させてもらいました。

１０日には、印刻部とNYCを拠点とする版画コレクティブ、Print Palsによる報告・対話イベントが行われました。二つのコレクティヴが自らのアイデンティティや、戦争、そして周りを浸蝕するファシズムへの抵抗をテーマにワークショップを開き、制作された版画をもとにタペストリーを制作した経験を共有しました。

私は、二つのコレクティヴが「版画通信」を行いながら、国境やそういった境界線がいかに人工的・流動的なものであるかに向き合ってきたことを知りました。対話に耳を傾けるなかで、私自身も境界線・ボーダーをめぐる自分自身の葛藤や、そこから生じる困難や無知と向き合っていました。

しかし、今回台北で出会った人々からいただいたような温かさやケアと共に、こういった「通信」を続けることができれば、越境できるチャンスも増えるのではないかという新たな希望も感じることができました。
